Event Overview & Background
Ghana's rental housing market serves as the primary shelter framework for over 60% of urban households. However, for decades, the sector has been constrained by structural challenges: the widespread extraction of illegal one-to-two-year rent advances, arbitrary evictions, unregulated hostel fees, and unlawful pricing of local tenancies in United States Dollars ($).
The year 2026 marks a historic turning point. Following the directives issued by the Rent Control Department, the deployment of the digital platform, and the mandatory enforcement of the Nationwide Rent Card have officially commenced. Furthermore, active collaborative efforts between the RCD and the Bank of Ghana are underway to heavily penalize dollar-denominated domestic leases.
